Some of the places our fellow campers have been to are definitely worth a visit. So many places to see, so little time. You also get the horror stories, not like when we sat around the campfire as kids scaring each other but the places to avoid, sometimes even scarier. There is always something to do around camp and this weekend was no different. Among the fellow campers at gatherings like this there is a wealth of knowledge and experience and most are more than willing to help other campers when required.

We had 2 CSC checks, 2 electrical faults in a couple of campers, easy fixed, a small rip in a tent awning, duct tape is great, expert panel and paint advise on a retro caravan and a misbehaving diesel heater. This being a public event, the camping was open to all not just club members. Ok so this far all our All Points Camping Club events are open to members and prospective members. Being part of a national camping club is great, apart from the deals and discounts financial members get there is that feeling of belonging and fellowship. Meeting other members on your travels, some may turn into lifelong friends.

Originally Easter was a Spring Pagan festival celebrating the return of warm weather, growth and new life. The Easter holiday weekend as we know changes date from year to year.

This is due to, the Council of Nicaea In CE established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21st for the vernal equinox. History lesson over. What this meant is that the Easter Camp was much later this year than last and therefore rather cooler. Due to the colder temperature and forecast rain we had no one brave enough to pitch a tent unlike the 6 families who attended last year.
I am so happy that we have an extremely good Diesel Heater in our Bus. A smaller, but still good, turnout for the camp with people from far and wide. A young family from Auckland stopped in for a night on their way south while a gentleman entertained us with music and song on his trip home to Rotorua. Foxton although only a small town km North of Wellington on SH1 has a lot to offer those traveling through and well worth a stop and not just for the dump station at the north end of town. A group of us from the camp went to the Foxton Little Theatre show on Saturday night and had a really good time.
Sunday dawned fine so off to the Easter Market in town.
Bev Stoneley and I took a trip down to the river mouth, attempting to catch dinner. The local fish had other ideas. My reputation as a fisherman is in tatters as Bev likes to point out I was out fished 3 to 0, if you can call the 3 extremely small shellfish Bev snagged a catch. A very productive fishing expedition with nothing to return to camp with apart from a broken rod.

We are never too old to learn, and we did learn that if you hook up your caravan to move it, even if only 40feet, tidy the benches FIRST. Things can fall to the floor creating an unwanted cleaning job. Need I say more Mr Stoneley. It was very funny for those of us not involved in the clean-up. Fun and games in the hall that evening became rather competitive. Balloon Badminton is like normal badminton only with balloons and Fly swats as bats, it also appears to have NO rules.
