If you're visiting nearby attractions in and around Kawerau, or looking for accommodation, stop by and visit the friendly staff in Kawerau Information Centre. I was after details about getting to the Tarawera Waterfalls, and I wanted to do some hiking beyond to the Lake.

They also printed off a very handy topographic map which I used on my days walk to the Tarawera Lake as well as visiting the very impressive 65m waterfalls, after a short walk, most people can do.

Next to the Information Centre in Kawerau are some great toilets, which were clean and pleasant to use. Overall the Information Centre in Kawerau, has a huge amount of other attractions to learn about, and drive or walk to. They also sell Tee Shirts depicting local places in Kawerau, and I thought overall, in a quiet town, the friendly staff in the Information Centre were very helpful for my 5 day holiday.

We stayed on a freedom campsite just behind the pool area, and spend about four hours using this amazing free facility. What a credit to Kawerau town. Pools of varying temperatures, a little play park, lawn and benches, and immaculately clean changing rooms.

Stayed on private land and loved every minute. Over Xmas and new year. Kawerau quiet and clean.

Fabulous trees. Hot pools were superb. Meet interesting people. Very clean and fabulous staff. Some visitors and many local families.

Made the small detour here while travelling from Whakatane to Auckland. It had been recommended by the motel staff and I'm so glad we took that advice.

There were many positives. It's free, the changing rooms were clean, the pools just wonderful on a cold and rainy day.

Also there were 2 members of staff on duty for the handful of swimmers and I saw one of them check the water temp twice. Just brilliant and I thoroughly recommend it!
