San Francisco, California 4 contributions. Bliss on the Marlborough Sounds. We were looking for a detached lodge on the beautiful Marlborough Sounds - this is exactly what we found - We stayed 4 nights which I thought was perfect - the lodge is gorgeous and so comfortable to just "hang out" in - The staff is so friendly and helpful - the grounds are beautiful and the spot they have is unbeatable.

We flew in from Wellington on a chartered Cesna 6 seater - Pelorus air - arrange by the lodge - quick 25 minutes of breathtaking scenery in the air to a landing strip a couple Km from the lodge where the picked us up. Limited in food choices - sort of have to eat there but the food was good with lots of choices. We used the bikes and kayaks and SUPs and took a day across the sound to hike a section of the Queen Charlotte Track which was breathtaking. The …. Review collected in partnership with this hotel. Our life in Blenheim,New Zealand.

We decided to drive all the way in which is incredibly long and windy but the views are amazing. The lodge is beautiful and located in a very picturesque spot in the Sounds. There is plenty to do and it is also a great place to do very little - we swam and went for walks which suited us on our two night stay.

We also stayed on a package which included breakfast and dinner which was really good - the restaurant has a wonderful selection of options including a very tasty seafood chowder and very beautiful fish dishes. The service was really good and we enjoyed everything we had.

Meals were excellent and employees were most helpful, even driving us to a location from which we could take a walk back to the lodge, Of course, the captain took us back to our car by boat and he then led us to a location where we could take a walk on part of the Queen Charlotte Track. Cloudy Bay famously made the luminous sauvignon blanc which in the Nineties became such an object of desire that bottles were sold on allocation and prized as rare trophies. With breezy white parasols and views across a lawn to the mountains, it feels more like a hotel than a winery.

Sling yourself into one of the deckchairs and order a glass of savvy b, with a snack from the raw food bar — how about half a dozen Te Mataku oysters with soy and lime sauce? The sound of music follows you around at Framingham: you hear it as you stroll outside and the old wine cellar is used for gigs and practice sessions for the winery band — Renwick Nudes. In an ocean of sauvignon blanc, Framingham specialises in… riesling. The cellar door is open seven days a week. Don't miss: The riesling, obviously framingham.

Hans and Therese Herzog ran a winery and Michelin-starred restaurant in their native Switzerland before buying a parcel of land in Marlborough in the early Nineties. Their New Zealand fine dining restaurant, set among the vines, is now a destination in its own right, and a magnet for wine professionals from around the world. Hans is known for his obsession with grape varieties: he cultivates around 30 on the small estate, and can often be seen tending them.
